Introduction
Set against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s funeral industry, the film delves into Taoist rituals such as the “Breaking of Hell” ceremony, exploring themes of human connection and the profound topics of life and death.
Amidst the economic downturn caused by the pandemic, wedding planner Wai Dou-sheng (portrayed by Dayo Wong) is forced to switch careers and becomes a funeral director. Initially, his principles clash with those of Master Man (portrayed by Michael Hui), an experienced Taoist priest who conducts funeral rites, leading to frequent conflicts. However, through an encounter with a unique deceased individual, Master Man’s assistance, and witnessing the small yet significant interactions between Master Man and his daughter Man Yuet (portrayed by Stephy Tang), Dou-sheng’s perspective on his profession and life gradually begins to shift.
